About Manang

Manang district lies in the western part of Nepal, which covers an area of 2246sq km. Manang is different than anyother district in Nepal as Manang district has only 13 villages and is divided into three distinct regions as : Nyeshang Valley, Gyalsumdo Valley and Nar Phu Valley. Manang is home to just about 9,000 people. To be in Manang its just five-day walk from the nearest road head in Besisahar in Lamjung. Marshyangdi, Naar and Dudh khola are the main rivers in Manang. Manang is also famous due to Milarepa Cave. This cave is honored with  meditation, offerings, and an annual festival. Pisang, Ngwal and Ghuaru villages gives a perfect speculating views and cultural satisfaction.

Attraction Highlight
Yarhtung festival = = This Festival is celebrated in Manang Village during the month of June/July. It is celebrated in different six villages of Upper Manang. It begins with horse riders and fans attired in traditional costumes gathering at a place called Ta-Khill-Thang for a session of dance and music. They then proceed to the racing grounds at Ta-Khill-Thang. After the races, the revellers visit Kargyu gumba and Pocho gumba to light butter lamps, dance and sing songs of good fortune.
ARCHERY/METHA == This festival is celebrated in month of April or May and lasts for four days. The people wear traditional dress with a bow and arrow. The men gather at certain designated places in the village and show off their targeting skills while Buddhist Lama perform prayers. The young women shower the young men with juniper sprigs.  And the man who hits the target is carried off to the village chief who presents him with money and a Khata(scarf). 
Nature/Lakes == In Manang there are lakes like Kecho Lake, Maringchho Lake, Gangapurna Lake etc, which are the result of glacier erosion. Manang is home to many different varieties of birds and animals. Musk Deer, Snow Leopard and Flora gives you natural taste. Manang is one of the remotest districts of the country, rich in culture and nature.
Braka / Pocho Gumba == While in Manag we will take you to the Braka Gumba. This Gumba is 500 years old and situated in Bhraka valley. Those who visit Braga, he/she fears. Braka is built  into a wall of towering cliffs but structured for protection against all possible dangers of the  Himalayan frontier. While Pocho gumba is one of the famous monastry in Manang where special occasion used to be held.
