| Mera Trekking |
The trek starts from Kathmandu to Jiri by bus or to Lukla by flight. At Jiri a very rare tribe called the Jiri gal inhabit the area. First the trek crosses many passes (like Lamjura La, 3.500 m), then reaches Sherpa villages. The trail leads up and down, passing many monasteries and rhododendron forests. Mera Peak is an easy one, but to reach the high camp (Mera La) it is quite difficult. It is Possible to return to Lukla or directly to Amphu Lapcha. The trekking consists mostly of reasonable trails, but the isolation of the region, and the fact That if combined with an ascent of Mera Peak some more nights have to be spend at above 5.000 m altitude, make this a most demanding outing. Those who have only time for 2 weeks can fly to Lukla from Kathmandu and return by flight as well.
